Base Jumping at the KL Tower in Malaysia

September 5, 2018 8:49 pm
From September 29th to October 2nd 2017, The KL Tower BASE Jump 2017 competition took place in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The Kuala Lumpur Tower hosted 3067 BASE jumps over 4 days and 2 nights of competition. The video below gives you a good feel for all the festivities and action at the event. Warning, if you get vertigo easily then stop watching after about 3:15 in.
Jumps were completed by 102 BASE jumpers from 22 countries during the 4 day event, now in it’s 18th year. Participants were from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Protugal, Russia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States. The first base jump in Malaysia took place at the same tower in 1999. It was logged in the Malaysian record books as the first Malaysian BASE Jump. Two years later jumping at the KL Tower had become an official event and was attracting international recognition and competitors. The competition has continued ever since and has expanded to venues in nearby cities. Here’s a great highlight reel showing a lot of jumps from 2017.

Here’s some great aerial drone footage of the event.
